New life for old household appliances

The association of electric and electronic equipment manufacturers and importers.

The operations of SERTY and the national recycling of household appliances are based on Finnish legislation: according to the Government Decree on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (Valtioneuvoston asetus sähkö- ja elektroniikkalaiteromusta), no. 852 of 2004, the importers and manufacturers of household appliances are responsible for their waste management.

Consumers may return old household appliances at the designated collection points without charge. You can check the nearest collection point in Finland by consulting www.kierratys.info. Some stores selling electric and electronic appliances has begun to receive used appliances starting 1st of May 2013.

The reception of used electrical equipment by some of the stores will commence on 1 May 2013.


24.01.2013   Electrical equipment returned to official collection points is processed primarily in Finland

Since the beginning of 2005, consumers have been able to return discarded electrical or electronic devices to more than 400 reception points free of charge. Almost without exception, devices returned to these points end up in the hands of Finnish processing companies.


02.01.2013   A fine may be imposed on any company that does not cover its producer responsibility

According to the new Waste Act which will take effect on 1 May 2012, a fine may be imposed on any company that does not cover its producer responsibility.
