Legislation

Recycling is based on legislation

The government decree in accordance with the EU directive on waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE decree) came into effect on 13.8.2005. With the decree, the responsibility for the recycling and reutilization of electrical and electronic waste has been transferred to the manufacturer and the importer.

Almost all of the electrical home products, for example refrigerators and freezers, television sets, computers, telephones and fluorescent tubes, and much of the professional equipment, such as analyzers in health care and office equipment are the responsibility of the producer.

Producer responsibility for electrical and electronic equipment concerns manufacturers, importers and those who sell products under their own trademarks.

The legislation that regulates producer responsibility can be found on the Finlex Internet pages.
